Japan Commodity Futures Volume of 16 Million 821 Thousand in 2022, Lowest in 21st Century

Total volume of Japan commodity futures markets in 2022 was 16,821,906 contracts, down 1.7% from 2021, less than 20 million contracts for two years in a row, the lowest year since 2001.
The volume of gold, the main commodity, was 7,376,672 contracts, up 1.8% from 2021, but crude oil was 2,460,572 contracts, down 37.6%, significant decrease exceeding 30% for two years in a row.
By exchange, the volume of Osaka Exchange, a subsidiary of JPX, was 14,327,287 contracts, up 15.5% from 2021, Tokyo Commodity Exchange(TOCOM), another subsidiary of JPX, was 2,494,492 contracts, down 38.2% and Osaka Dojima Exchange was nil since April, 2022 because rice was disapproved by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries in 2021.
